Google Earth and Google Lit Trips working together
Google Lit Trips are free downloadable files that mark the journeys of characters from famous literature on the surface of Google Earth. At each location along the journey there are placemarks with pop-up windows containing a variety of resources including media, discussion starters, and links to supplementary information about “real world” references made in that particular portion of the story.

Google Lit Trips bring a story to life, students can become a part of the story by traveling to the same paces that the characters in the book traveled. See the same places allows for readers to truly become part of the story.

The basics of Google Earth (Download and explore first)

  • You will need to download Google Earth first from __http://www.google.com/earth/index.html__
  • The download is free, but you should read the computer requirements first.
  • Once downloaded you can begin exploring the many features.

The basics of Google Lit Trips

  1. Go to the Google Lit Trips site at http://www.googlelittrips.org/
  2. Read through the variety of titles at each grade level span
  3. Download the title of your choice (free, but you need to fill out a survey)
  4. Double click the file and it should open the file in Google Earth
  5. You can now view each pin mark in the order in which you want
  6. You can explore all of the areas at once by choosing the flying tour
